i have a athlon 3200 64 bit proc, 1.5 gig of ram 80 gig hd and a gigabyte
mobo. when i go to install vista 64 it says, loading windows files, when the
bar fills up, going all the way across the screen, the system reboots, and
asks to boot from cd again. if i do not click anything, it boots my xp
install, if i do press a key, it does the loading windows files again, its a
never ending thing, it just keeps doing it over and over. any help at all
would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the cd as first boot device in bios? Maybe it should be boot the
hdd first and then when you click on nothing (I've had the same experience)
the drive that you are installing to will boot. You don't want to boot from
the cd after loading the files has completed.

What motherboard? See my post in the Installation & Setup forum under
"My_BSOD [solved]". I am using a Gigabyte mb also with an AMD64 3200 cpu.

Good luck.

Remove the dvd when you see the countdown to restart and you should get the
boot options screen. Select Microsoft Windows if it is not the top entry
(should be) and once the restart is under way replace the dvd. I have had a
couple of installations where I got situations like that but wound up with a
pefectly good installation and no problems with the boot options later.
