Can't install SP1 - Entry Point Not Found

G

Guest

I've spent most my day trying to figure this out on my own. Please help.

When I try to install service pack 1 I get this message:

Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point CoInternetGetSession could not be located in the
dynamic link library urlmon.dll.

I've tried a few things that I've found here, but nothing was specific for
my problem and nothing worked.

Thanks

Why are you trying to do that?
BTW if this is XP you should only be doing that if you are also doing
what is mentioned in KB318378.

What version of urlmon.dll do you have?
What maintenance do you have?
E.g. if you have installed the latest cumulative update
you could have (according to the Security Bulletin Search tool:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

)

this one

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-038.mspx

which would have given an XPsp2 user this version of urlmon.dll

<example>
Urlmon.dll
6.0.2900.2713
03-Jul-2005
02:11
607,744
SP2GDR

</example>

or this one (note the difference is in the folder name which can also
be inferred using file Properties, Version, Other Version Information,
Item name: File Version)

<example>
Urlmon.dll
6.0.2900.2713
03-Jul-2005
02:09
608,256
SP2QFE

If you need help you need to provide more details so we know, e.g.
what thing you've tried and what would be "specific for <your> problem" <eg>
Remember: your words have to substitute for what our eyes might notice.
