ain't it the truth. a major sp and one have to jump thru fire to simply get
back to the recovery console, previously installed or sitting on the CD. PoC.
It can't be much IF one had the latest files. But NOOO, try to find them on
the MS site...... I can't.

Hi

You will need a slipstreamed SP2 CD to install the Recovery Console.
However the SP2 file is needed (266 MB). It can be downloaded from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

Then use the following the article to create the SP2 slipstreamed CD:

After all my whining I too found that slipstreaming the Service Pack into an
existing XP source is extremely easy. I got a bit confused in some of the
discusion above, so I used Paul Thurmott's method from his website. It is
simply this:

1.) Copy the contents of the XP CD to your hard drive. Create a folder in
the root of your C: drive called xp (C:\xp) and use My Computer to simply
drag and drop the files between the two locations.
2.) Create a new folder called sp2 on the C drive (C:\sp2) and then copy the
Service Pack 2 executable file to that location. NOTE: the MS download and CD
SP2 executable names are not the same. The SP2CD executable file name
(xpsp2.exe) is used in this example.
3.) Bring up a command line window by navigating to Start | Run | type "cmd"
(no quotes) | then hit ENTER. In the command line window, type the following
(where [ENTER] means hit the ENTER key):

cd \ [ENTER]
cd sp2 [ENTER]
xpsp2.exe /integrate:c:\xp [ENTER]

He also provides detailed instructions on turning the end product above into
a bootable CD. Since all I wanted to do was install the Recovery Console, I
have not completed those steps. One can find this info at the following site
address:

All I wanted to do was change an attribute on a file. I just got my laptop,
XP installed, loaded SP2, and found out I needed to install the recovery
console. What a journey to fix a file. On the upside, I learned how to make
an integrated CD for the future. Thanks for your instructions. I don't
generally get this deep so it took a few read throughs to understand it all,
but I got there. Thanks again for your great instructions.
