can't import more than one clip at a time

I have a Sony HandyCam HDD camcorder that records in MPEG-2 format but uses a
..mpg extension. When I try to import several files at once into WMM2, only
ONE file gets imported, and if I then try to import another file it REPLACES
the one that is already displayed in the Collections window, and this
prevents me from making any compilations from my movie clips. The progress
bar moves along like it's opening all of the files, but only the first clip
gets displayed.

I can successfully import separate clips captured from tape, so this seems
to be related to the MPGs, but I'm not sure. Nero Vision Express and Adobe
Premiere Elements have no problem importing several MPGs from my camcorder
simultaneously, so this seems to be a problem within WMM. Any ideas? Thanks.
