Can't get file sharing to work over wireless network...

Hi
I'm having trouble sharing files over my wireless network. I have an external hard drive connected to a desktop pc via usb 20. Then that desktop is hardwired into a linksys wireless (802.11G) router. Then I have a laptop with a wireless card. I'm trying to get the laptop access to the external hard drive. I am able to access the internet from the laptop. I've also shared both the external hard drive itself, and the folder containing the files I need, but when I try to map a network drive to the shared folder I get and error saying I don't have permissions to the desktop computer. Both the desktop and the laptop are part of the same workgroup...I've been working on the for 2 days now and am totally stuck. Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem using almost the same setup
(exluding the external hard drive). I have a firewall
installed on both the laptop and desktop and there are
settings in the firewall to allow file sharing between
computers that need to be set to allow the computers to
talk.

Thanks for the help! I tried both things but still couldn't get it working. I have both the desktop and laptop part of the workgroup "home". I have created accounts on both machines, but I still can't access the share. If I go into my computer and try to access the workgroup, I get the following error

"Home is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions

The list of servers for this workgroup is currently not available.

Any ideas

Trey,

Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. If you installed a third party
firewall such as Norton, Sygate, or ZoneAlarm make sure it is properly
configured for the local area network.

That was it! Thanks for the help man! I had the Norton firewall activated. After I added my computer as a trusted pc I ran into another problem. For some reason I was getting an error saying the same as listed beore, but the last sentence of the error said "There is not enough server storage availble for this request. The external hard drive was connected via usb 20. I change to the firewire and it worked right away...interesting?!?! Thanks again.
