Can't delete files or folders

T

The Mailman

My system
Dual boot
1st Drive 120GB
C: 8GB Win98se-FAT32
D: 112GB Win2kPro SP1-FAT32
E: CD-RW
G:120GB Storage-NTFS
H:120GB Storage-NTFS

The Problem-When I try to delete a file or folder from D: I get the
following

message:
ERROR DELETING FILE OR FOLDER
Cannot Delete x: (where x is the name of the file or folder) Cannot find the
specified path. Make sure you specify the correct path.

This happens whether I right-click/delete or select and use the delete key.
I can move files and folders to another drive without a problem. All other
drives
react normally. The PC seems to react normally. I tried to download SP4 and
after the download was complete the operation aborted saying The specified
directory could not be found.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Meyer

- What's the exact name of the folder?
- Does this happen to any file or folder on D:?
- Can you create files or folders on D:?

The name of the file or folder does not seem to matter. It can even be a
shortcut I created 1 minute earlier. I have no trouble creating files &
folders. I just can't delete them unless I move them to another drive.

I think there is a serious problem with the file system on that
disk. To confirm this suspicion, you could temporarily install
the disk as a slave disk in some other Win2000 PC and
check if the problem still occurs.

If so then I would back up all data, then repartitiion and
reformat the disk.
