Can't create restore point

I am running XP Pro. Wanted to create a restore point before installing new
software. Went into System Restore and found there are no restore points
available. Tried to create one and got message "Restore Point can't be
created. Restart computer and try again". Have tried several times with no
progress. Found that HighPoint driver could cause this problem, but checked
and this driver not installed. Any ideas appreciated.
