System Restore

I am using Windows XP pro. The system is working, but I thought I would
check my restore capability. When I tried to restore, I get the message that
the system can not restore to the point selected, no changes were made.
The point selected was 48 hours old. I created a new restore point. All
went well, but when I tried to restore to the new point I get the same
message, Can't restore to the point selected, no changes were made.
I checked to make sure restore was running, it was. I have 33 Gigs of space
available on the hard drive. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to
get this fixed before I really need it.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Is your Real Player, up to date? Honesty, I have not tried a System
Restore, since installing the new McAfee VirusScan and Personal Firewall
that is out. But I bet that might be the cause of the problem. Are you using
the new VirusScan and Personal Firewall?

System Restore (SR) will fail for a variety of reasons none of which are
within your control, in short SR is basically unreliable. If you wish to
continue using it then you should turn SR off reboot and re-enable SR making
sure that you are monitoring only the drive on which your OS is installed,
that is WINXP and most often the C drive. If you really want to continue
using SR I strongly suggest you also install ERUNT (freeware). ERUNT will
automatically backup the Registry daily and each 'backup' is standalone,
unlike SR, hence a corrupt 'backup' will not cause all backups to fail, as
is the case with SR.

Hi Jim,

Each new restore point you create and try to restore to depends on all
previous restore points to complete the restore process. So you can see
that if there is a corrupt restore point prier to the date and time the
system is being restored to, the restore will fail.

The majority of the time turning System Restore off then on again fix
the corruption problem. In the process all restore points will be
deleted.

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

There are also other possibilities that can cause this to happen. The
