Can't copy from CD-rw

I've read forums and newsgroups until I'm nearly blind. I've seen countless
users who are getting errors when installing Vista and when backing up, but I
haven't seen too many, if any, that have a problem when trying to copy files
from my internal cd/dvd drive onto my hard drive.

At first, all went just fine...I was copying music and other files from my
old computer, then I started to get these error messages...something about a
I/O device error. While moving files (or should I say copying files since
the "move" feature seems to be gone in vista) from my cd drive, nearly every
time it will hang for several minutes...stopping well before it is finished.
It takes FOREVER for the error message to come up. And then after that, it
seems the only thing I can do is erase the cd-rw and start over. If I try to
copy the files without erasing, I get a perpetual "preparing to copy" message
that never goes away. If I try to cancel any of these operations, Windows
Explorer stops responding and I have to reboot.

Any help? I've read as much as I can take right now and haven't found any
solution. I've tried several things suggested for other users that get the
same x8007045d error message, and nothing has helped.

BTW...I can copy from my Sandisk drive easily. But I'm wondering why so
many errors with the cd/dvd drive?

Sounds to me that one of your drives is going bad. You could try one of the
laser head cleaning devices (little brushes on a special CD) but I have
never 'repaired' a failing drive that way.

If you have one of the media suites (such as Roxio) you may have a CD/DVD
test feature that will examine each block on a disk.
