Can't connect to the internet or home network

I had to reinstall windows xp sp2 on my comp. the initial install went ok, i
enabled the firewall, but when i try to connect to the internet i can't. Ive
tried several times to set up a new connection. Ive rebooted the modem and
the router. In the device manager under network it shows a 1394 eee card,
directly under it there shows UNKNOWN DEVICES with a yellow "?" which is a
ethernet controller.there doesn't seem to be any problems with any other
devices. (I don't know if its in the irq set up) I cant find any drivers for
this on any disks I have. Ive tried deleting it. reinstalling xp, cant figure
it out. the other 2 comp on the home network work fine.
The computers internet connection worked fine before this. I was forced to
reinstall xp because a virus or spyware i couldn't remove.
A!ny help would be greatly apprieciated. thanks

Could it be possible that a "Dazzle digital video editing card i had
installed is being mistaken by the comp as a networking card??

Very unlikely as that status is determined during reboot by the
POST CODE.

Make sure you do power off and not just 'reset' because they are
very different processes.

i tried that. the 1394 card was the card i installed to do digital video
work. i removed it but now i dont get any network adapters, i still get the
unknown device as an ethernet controller ive tried to install drivers for it
but no luck. the computer came with the network card built into the mother
board (it a dell4550 2.4). i cant seem to get it to work??
