Can't connect to Internet after install XP SP1

Teda Mouth

Hi all,

I just installed Win XP SP1a and now everything EXCEPT
Internet Explorer 6 can connect to internet. I even got
new Windows Update notification and downloaded them.

I'm using a BELKIN 4-port router with firewall, also
enabled XP firewall and running Norton Internet Security.
Tried to disable all firewalls and IE6 still didn't work.
I applied the Microsoft Update q331906.exe and no luck.
The other PC (Win98) connected to the same router still
works
fine.

Please, please help me.

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like it could be an MTU issue.

Try the following Google Groups search:
belkin router mtu group:microsoft.*

You can also get more hits with the equivalent web search.

For some reference information:

<title>314825 - How to Troubleshoot Black Hole Router Issues</title>

I have suggested people use that article only to prove if they need
to change their MTU size for a particular destination.
Then go to a networking newsgroup which specializes in this stuff.

One experiment you could try would be to do the same size tests
on both your systems. My guess would be that the Win98 system
has a different setting from your XP system but I don't know if that
should be apparent from the test.

Good luck
