Can't access Windows Update or microsoft.com

If I us internet explorer and try to access windows
update or http://www.microsoft.com, I get the
message "The page cannot be displayed." It also
states "cannot find server or DNS error." I also have
AOL on the same computer. If I sign on to AOL and use
the AOL browser, I can access both microsoft.com and
windows update.

Any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

Lan Settings - Proxy Server - Disable (Line 253)

Manual: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections/Lan Settings. Uncheck Use a
proxy server.....

Rename your hosts file: Go to: Windows\System32\DRIVERS\etc.
