Can't access WIN2000 Computers using peer-peer

G

Greg

I have 3 networked computers through a router. One is
WIN98SE. The other 2 are WIN2000. I am not able to
access any printers or drives on either WIN2000 computer
from either of the other computers. Both WIN2000
computers are easily able to access the drives and
printers on the WIN98SE computer.

All are part of the same workgroup.

All have sharing enabled.

When trying to find shared resources, those on the WIN98SE
computer are easily displayed as available resources when
trying to map a network drive or a printer. The WIN2000
computers show up in network neighborhood (or where ever
the place is that shows available resources to connect
to), but don't show any shared resources. If I try to
connect directly by knowing the resource name on the
WIN2000 computer it tells me I don't have access.
Sometimes it presents me with a login dialog asking for a
login and password. I have never set up these WIN2000
computers with passwords either for the computer itself or
for the shared resources.

I've also set up additional shares for the hard drive,
thinking, perhaps, that the $C (or C$) share was not a
real share, but that didn't help either. Still nothing
shows as available to share.

What can I do to have these computers show their shared
resources as items that are available for the other
computers to use?

Your assistance is appreciated.

I feel your pain. I have your exact same problem. I'm running nornmal Win98 and can't access the Win2000 machine on a simple Ethernet cable network between two computers. I think the solution was touched on in articles 258299 and Q258717, but they don't match exactly and neither do there solution.

Help please...

Make sure u have right to the w2k files. W2k has built in
security and u have to auth. to the w2k server. Log in to
the w98 and both w2k using the admin account and see it
that works.
