Can't access MicrosoftUpdate or WindowsUpdate sites

When I try to use a link to MicrosoftUpdate or WindowsUpdate from anywhere
else on Microsoft.com I get the following error message in the address bar:

http://update.microsoft.com/MicrosoftUpdate/v6/errorinformation.aspx?Error=16

I'm using Firefox 1.5, which displays an error page that says "The page
isn't redirecting properly.... the server is redirecting the request for this
address in a way that will never complete." It suggests that this problem is
sometimes caused by refusing to accept or disabling cookies. However, I have
configured everything to accept cookies, and I don't have problems with any
other web sites. The same thing happens with Internet Explorer 6, except
that I just get a blank page. I am able to access the Microsoft download
center, and I am able to perform downloads, in both Firefox and IE6.

I've seen other error messages discussed, but I can't figure out what
Error=16 means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would suggest posting this inquiry in the microsoft.public.windowsupdate
newgroup instead of here - they will surely have better-targeted suggestions
than we do.

Thanks, Richard. I posted my message where you suggested. Meanwhile, I did
find out that "Error=16" is associated with ASP. Unfortunately, I have no
idea how to read ASP, so I am trying to post my message on the ASP.NET forum
as well. I was allowed to register as a user on that site, but it won't let
me post a message. Perhaps THAT problem is temporary. Perhaps my system
just doesn't like ASP. I hope someone can help me with this.
