canon i9900 printer files will not install on dell

Got i9900. Never had any trouble installing printers until now. the
canon cd installs the user guide and then when it gets to the "printer
connection window" (here i turn the printer on). the "help" button does
not work nor does the "cancel" button. This install setup will not stop
so i cannot restart the computer. Finally i was able to exit the
install program and restarted the computer after uninstalling whatever
printer files were installed and the same problem occurs. The screen
"new hardware wizard" keeps popping up relentlessly -as soon as you
cancel it a few seconds passes and then the window appears again with
the notation "system can't find file". i have windows xp and sp1 and am
in administrator mode. the computer is dell 4600c.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? I have the printer
drivers for a hp photosmart printer on the hd but i don't think they
pose a problem.

How are you connecting printer to PC? Did you try the latest software from
the Canon website?

printer connected via 1.1 usb and yes, i did download the latest driver
from the canon website. it seems that every time i put the cd into the
computer it crashes.

Anything else you need can be downloaded from the Canon website...

Is it now printing correctly? If not, I'd try an uninstall and reinstall
using:
