I have a Cannon i850 which wont print black, even though the cartridge
is full. I want to try and clean the head but i cannot see how to
remove it. I know it must be easy because no one bothers mentioning how
to take it out as it is so obvious .......

thanks

It's rather simple, pretty much the the same as any newer canon IIRC.
Remove cartridges, lift plastic retaining clip, grasp inside the
plastic bits of the cartridge body, tilt tward you, pull upwards at a
slight angle tward you.

Try to avoid using black OEM Canon cartridges. According to Canon name
brand aftermarket cartridges are better than thier OEM cartridges. A
good choice would be G&G.

Or you could buy a real printer...HP. Canon are just toys.
