Cannot View Source (one user only)

Guest

I am using Windows XP Home with SP2 and suddenly cannot view HTML source code
by using the View menu or by right-clicking on the page. This only affects
one user setting, not the other which works perfectly. (Viewing the source
code is important as I do a lot of web design).

I cleaned out Cookies, Temporary Internet Files, History, etc. as I normally
do every day, but to no avail. I don't know how this happened since I'm very
careful in keeping the system clean from viruses, spyware, adware, etc.

Is there a fix or a Registry setting that I can change? I don't want to have
to switch to Firefox/Mozilla.

Thanks in adavance for your help.

Hi wall street shuffle :)

Try the following information and see if it helps:

Cannot view Source

Make sure notepad.exe is in ..\windows and that it is not a third party
version. Also, if you have a shortcut to Notepad on your desktop rename it
to Npad.

Search your registry for the DWORD noviewsource. If that exists, delete it
or set it to 0.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your message.

Yes, I could use your help in searching the registry for the DWORD
noviewsource. Could you walk me through the steps involved and where I could
find it (in the directory tree)? Also, any ideas on how this happens?

Hi Jan,

Yes, I could use your help in searching the registry for the DWORD
noviewsource. Could you walk me through the steps involved and where I could
find it (in the directory tree)? Also, any ideas on how this happens?

Ok...let's take the Registry first:

Start>Run>type regedit in the window
When the Registrer opens, first of all, go to File and click Export, to back
up a copy of the Registry before you make any changes. Save it to a folder
where you'll know where to find it if you need to restore the Registry at
some point.

Then go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer
Bars\{C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1}
Files NamedMRU

Look on the right side of divider for 000 REG_SZ DWORD “neviewsource
If that exists, delete it or set it to 0.

Save and OK out
You may need to reboot your machine

As for why it happens, there are several reasons, corrupt file, removed
spyware/adware that messed up files, etc.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan,

I tried your suggestion but wasn't able to find the
({C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1} > Files NamedMRU) directory on my XP
machine.

I also read through the links you sent but wasn't able to fix the problem. I
believe some were related to older versions of IE.

Any other suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Dennis
