Cannot view received faxes

S

sherpa

Double clicking or trying to view a received fax in the XP
Fax Console does nothing. I can open the TIF file directly
with a viewer program (e.g., ACDSee, IrfanView), but not
through the Fax Console (and presumably Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer). TIFs are associated with IrfanView and
previously were associated with ACDSee.

I would like to be able to view the faxes by double
clicking the the Fax Console. Any thoughts on why I can't
view them and how to correct the program.

Please change the association to Windows Picture and Fax viewer and try.

For this type

assoc .tif=MSPaper.Document
assoc .tiff=MSPaper.Document

in a command prompt.

Archan,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as suggested but to no
avail. I have gone to Folder Options to verify the file
associations. They do point to Windows Photo and Fax Viewer.

Is there another option we can try?

From the Printing, Imaging, Fax and All-in-One FAQ

5) Why can't I view faxes in the Fax Console?

There are many causes for this problem. Most often, this problem arises
because some other imaging application that you installed has set itself as
the default viewer for TIF files. To view faxes from the Fax Console, the
Windows Imaging and Fax viewer must be your default viewer for TIF files.
You can easily restore that setting in Windows Explorer > Folder Options >
File Types. For most users the command line should read:
"rundll32.exe <drive>:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1"

Another common cause of this problem is firewall software Trojan horse
rules. The most common is one that ships with Norton Internet Security.
