Displaying Faxes

Guest

The fax console is working fine (in receiving and sending faxes, etc.), but I
can't view any received faxes on the computer. I get the following error
message: "The fax document cannot be displayed because your operating system
does not have a default viewer for fax documents (.tif files)".

Incidentally, the TIF extension is not listed under My
Computer>Tools>Options>File Types....

Thanks for any help.

No disrespect, but that doesn't really tell me what to do: where do I run a
command line in file types?

I thought that because you already knew about looking for the
association for "TIF" in My Computer>Tools>Options>File Types you'd know
how to do that. Sorry.

What you need to do is to create the association for TIF files as follows:

1. Go to My Computer>Tools>Options>File Types

2. Click "New"

3. Type TIF in the "Create New Extension" box and click "OK"

4. Under "Details for 'TIF' extension" either

A. click "Change" and then select "Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer", check the box to always use this program, and OK your way out

OR (if Windows Picture and Fax Viewer doesn't appear in the list of
applications to select)

B. click "Advanced" and then, in the "Edit File Type" window,
highlight "open" and click "Edit", and under "Application used to
perform action" paste the command line entry from the FAQ:
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1

5. OK your way out. You might want to set "open" as the default on the
"Edit File Type" window.

You're welcome. I may have left out a few steps, depending on how
things are already configured on your pc, but it should now be pretty
clear what to do. If you have problems, post back.
