Cannot undo a global file rename

I accidentally renamed over 400 document/picture files with the same file
name (with sequential numbers). I tried using undo rename and the files did
not revert back to their original names. I checked Microsoft FAQ & found
nothing of use. Am I SOL or is there another way to undo the renames, even
if it means doing it file by file?

No, without some backup of the names somewhere else available to you, there
is no way for the system to 'remember' what they were. There are expensive
'data recover' methods available, but I doubt that it would be worth that
much to you.
