Something is misconfigured in the outgoing server portion of your account.

Well, how would you expect me to know that, since I can't see your PC?
Unless you post EXACTLY what ALL your settings are and EXACTLY what your ISP
says you MUST specify, how can you expect anyone to know what's wrong with
what you have?

you did not see. Anyhow, my configuration is as follows: by the way windows
vista Mail works finw with the same settings but not outlook 2007:
pop.orangehome.co.uk

I get error 550 when "SMTP requires authentication" is ticked.
Unticked; I get error message: "None of the authentication methods supported

I hope above details will help you finiding a solution for me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

According to Orange, the POP server is pop.orangehome.co.uk, the SMTP server
is smtp.orangehome.co.uk, the username is "yourname.orangehome.co.uk",
outgoing server authentication should NOT be checked, the outgoing server
port is 25, the incoming server port is 110, and neither of the "This server
requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" boxes should be checked. While this
is unusual, since this means that Orange doesn't care about spammers using
their SMTP servers as open relays, these are the settings Orange claims will
work.

Try deleting the SRS file in %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook and see if that
makes a difference. See if starting with a new mail profile and adding the
account in again makes a difference.
