SMTP error

Dont understand this - I have been sending and receiving for months - no
problem. Now I cannot send - I have reset all email accounts (its not just
one acount - its them all).

I have even done system restore a few days before this went wrong.

I have run virus checker etc.

Any good ideas?

Your virus checker could well be the problem.
For instance, McAfee and Norton anti virus suites
are not compatible with Vista in spite of some users
not yet having a problem.

Uninstall them if you have either and use free alternatives
such as Avast or AVG.

Meanwhile, post the full error message that includes
the diagnostic codes etc.

for a recorded message of the problem phone 0800 169 0199

Btw, do you also use Norton?

Thanks - I will see what space says about BT first then - if that does not
work I will follow up your idea about McAfee (even though it came
pre-installed).

Mike (thanks)

Good man ------

I tried early today and there was no message and nothing via the website so
I thought the problem was my side not theirs.

Many thanks

There is a problem with BT but once that is sorted it won't be long
before you get screwed by McAfee anyway.

Norton and McAfee are often preinstalled since they bribe
PC manufacturers to do so.

I should know better - trouble is I am not certain which antivirus is the
best at the moment both in being user friendly and efficient.

Any ideas?

AVG or Avast (both free) are compatible with Vista/WM.

I tried the number - not a working number. I have also tried wmutil and
another suggestion but nothing has worked. I need to send email. Jacquelyn

Until BT gets this sorted out, use webmail for sending.
Or is their webmail down to? You can always get a Gmail account
and use it for sending.

Hi there. I'm having the same problem sending emails, and I have a bt account
and Norton 360 antivirus. The message says the SMTP server is not responsing
and error code 0x800CCC19.
I spoke to Norton and they claim it's nothing to do with them.. so I think
you must be right and it's a BT problem going on for a long time. How the
heck can I report it to them or get info? Like someone else said, there is no
problem being reported on the 0800 1690199 number.
Many thanks

There was a report, on that number last night, of email problems.

As for reporting a problem to BT... did you receive no documentation
with your Internet connection pack?

Are you not able to access the web either,
since there is a customer support section
on the BT website for problem reporting?

Meanwhile, if I were you I'd get rid of Norton and
replace it with a free, Vista compatible product,
such as AVG or Avast.
(ensure the superfluous email scanning is not
installed and/or disabled.)

There is currently a problem with BT Smtp servers and Windows mail. It's been
there since yesterday (24/07/07) morning and as far as I know is not yet
fixed.
I've posted this same message to numerous other threads that have appeared
yesterday and today all reporting the same problem. Please do not try to
change anything on your PC - wait for BT to fix their problem. See also
thread "can't send mail?".
