Cannot send email -- can't connect to port 25

E

Ed Conrad

I suddenly started having problems sending email from any
email client installed on my computer. It seems I cannot
connect to port 25 on any SMTP server. I have disabled
all antivirus and firewall software, but still cannot
establish a connection.

In Outlook 2003, I get an error 0x80042109 and in Outlook
Express I get error 0x800CCC0E. If I try to telnet to the
port from a command line, the connection fails (although
I have no problem connecting for POP3 mail and receive my
email fine).

I've talked to my ISP several times and they feel the
problem is local to my computer. Any ideas what might be
going on?

Are you using your ISP's SMTP server or are you trying to use another SMTP
server? Most ISP do not allow port 25 to go thru their networks for other
SMTP servers.
