Cannot print from frame in IE

Hi there!

We have a problem with printing word (2000)-documents in Internet Explorer.
We use WinXp sp2 with IE 6 sp2

Our webpage consist of three frames (Top, Left and Main). From a link in
Left we open a word-doc in Main frame. The word-doc is selected and but when
we select from Explorer menu = file - print... only the Left frame is
printed. On the Options-tab "Only the selected frame" is marked and I am 100%
sure of that it is the word-doc that is selected - not the Left frame! If we
open the word-doc in word = no problems, if we open the word-doc in an own
Explorer window = no problem, if we choose "All frames individually" then all
frames, including word-doc is printed.

But if we go print preview and choose "All frames individually" we can only
see the Left and Top frame

Also, inside the word-doc there is a print-button, but pressing that will
only print the Left frame. It seems like we cannot get the word-doc or the
Main frame to be 'selected'. Since our company just migrated to IE6 sp2 from
IE5 and has lots of these links, any help is warmly welcomed!

Hi, Andreas. You might try one of the following two suggestions:
1) Right-click the Word document's link and choose "Open in New Window."
This will open the Word document in a new window, from which you can then
issue Internet Explorer's print command, OR
2) Right-click the Word document's link and choose "Save Target As..."
Select a location to which you want to save the Word document. When the
download is complete, click "Open" and then issue Word's print command.

If neither of these suggestions work, I would like to offer my apologies
that I was not able to offer any more help. But I am more than confident
that one or the other solution will be the one that works.

Hi Brandon and thanks for the suggestions.
I´ve tried both ways and they work fine. However, this still is annoying for
our users and causes several calls to our helpdesk since "it doesn´t work
like in IE 5".

Oh well I guess we´ll just have to post new info on the intranet or something

What exactly do you mean by "selected". E.g. via F6 or something
else?

Use F6 to get focus on the frame you want. Press the Menu key
(or Shift-F10 or right-click somewhere in the frame's background area)
Do you have a Print option in that menu? Try that.

IE6sp2 has tightened up the use of mixed zones so if the menu
frame originates in one security zone and the word document
is in another that might explain why you can no longer print both
frames at the same time.
