Cannot ping one printer on network

I've got a rather strange problem that has me stumped.

I have 6 computers in a pod connected via a switch to our main network. All
of the computers can access our local net and the internet. Also on the
switch is a Phaser 8400 printer with IP 10.11.4.55. All computers can print
to this printer without any problems whatsoever, except for one.

The one computer that cannot print can also access the net fine. I can ping
any other printer on our network, except for 10.11.4.55. I've checked the
routing and ARP tables, and everything appears correct. I've tried booting to
a networkable boot disk, which also cannot ping that one particular host.
Just to reiterate, every other computer can ping that IP with no problems.

I'm stumped at this point, any suggestions? Thank you!

Does your XP have Firewall enabled on the system?
For this network print server you must using an application to install the
network printer? If yes then ADD this application in XP Firewall.

Same kind of problem I faded with SMS printer server.

My apologies, I forgot to mention the firewall.

We have the firewall turned off internally through a group policy. I did
check the settings on that particular machine to ensure that the setting took
effect, and the firewall is in fact disabled and the option to enable it is
grayed out.

I am using the LPR protocol to connect to the printer (the Xerox driver
doesn't like IPP for some reason and AppSocket does not provide adequate
logging). All computers in the pod are set up in this mannor (firewall
disabled and using LPR)

Thanks,
Ken

This is really weird kind og problem. I'm sure that something is wrong with
the network printer device. Try changing the IP address of the computer.
Remove all network printer and re-install again.

It may help you out.

Your suggestion to change the IP address was right on the mark.

I was overlooking the fact that the DHCP server caches the IP/MAC combos, so
although I had rebooted the computer several times, it was *not* getting a
new MAC address. I logged into our DHCP server and created a dummy
reservation for the IP address of the computer, so that it would not be
issued out any longer, and then rebooted the computer. This time I got a
*new* IP and was able to ping/print to the printer.

I've checked through all the configuration of the Phaser and don't see
anywhere set where the printer is refusing connections from this IP address,
or any other for that matter. Looks like I'll have to call Xerox on that one.

In any case, for now the problem is resolved, thanks!
