cannot open database

if anyone can help will be highly obliged.i had an
database sent as a zip file. after unzip access window
opens and it says unrecognised database format. any ideas
to circumvent the problem and mend the problem. apparently
the person who developed this forme says it was working
well minutes before he sent it .

That generally indicates that they have saved it in a version of Access that
is higher than yours.

This error can have two causes:

- You are using an older version of Access than the person who created
it. Access databases are not backwards compatible - if the database
was created in Access 2002 format, then Access2000 or Access97 will
give this error if you try to open it. Check your version and ask the
sender what he's using. All versions since 2000 have the capability to
save the database in older formats (Tools... Database Utilities...
Convert), so he can (except for new version specific features) save
the database in a format you can read.

- Or, the database might have become corrupted in the packing, mailing
or unpacking process. He'll need to resend if so.
