Cannot manual or auto updates on Microsoft antispyware

Microsoft Antispyware will not update! I've installed
service patch 2, deleted everything GIANT in the
registry, everything GIANT on the hard drive, deleted
everything in the temp files like someone else suggested,
booted into safe mode and tried to fix it there,
downloaded the latest version on a different computer
(one that does not have problems and updates just fine)
and copied the whole directory over to the computer in
question, tried uninstalling and re-installing, and done
winsockfix. We've tried it while not behind any
firewalls. We are not behind any proxy servers. Every
time I go to update a box pops up with "Warning, could
not connect to the internet". This computer was infected
with viruses and spyware, but we cleaned it up, and it
still gives me the warning box.

Any suggestions or help out there?

Hello Kaeo

Just open IE, Tools, Internet Options,
Connections, LAN Settings, and be sure that "Automatically
detect settings" is checked.

Open Internet Explorer, click File and ensure that Work
Offline is not checked.

I don't profess to being anywhere near an expert here but;
I had the same problem ("Could not connect....") and it turned out that when I upgraded to
the current version of ZA(free) (V6.0.631.002) it decided, for whatever reason, to block
MSAS.
