Guy

Hi

Windows Server 2000
Clients 2000 pro

Every thing is ok.

Tried to join to the domain 2 mobile XPs newly purchased,
and got the error message as follows:

"The specified server cannot perform the requested
operation."

I have looked at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;fr;293403

TCP/IP is installed.

There is nothing in the Server Event log.

Anyone can help please ?

TIA

I had this occur when I'd installed an older version of F-Secure AV.

Manually give it the proper network settings,...don't use DHCP to start out.
Give it the Proper AD/DNS server setting and the proper WINS setting. Make
sure you can ping the server by IP#, by Netbios Name, and by the AD FQDN.

Sorry Phillip, I failed to understand what you meant
by "proper".

Thanks.

Give it an IP# that fits your subnet, along with the right mask, gateway,
DNS, and WINS.

Do it statically (not DHCP) until the machine is "joined", then you can go
back to DHCP if that is what you want. My point is to eliminate DHCP from
being a factor until that machine has been joined correctly.

Ah! That's right! I hadn't though of that. The Home Ed is easy to forget

I don't know what he is running either.

Phillip, you seemed to have liked Bob's input that Home
edition cannot join :))) Shall I put your mind at
rest ? I am running Pro :)) It's a pain...

Thanks

Well, it may be a pain,...but at least you and yours are safe from the evil
Home Edition <g>.
