Cannot install protocol tcpip v6

I am receiving the following error when I try to install the Tcpip v6 protocol

Could not add requested component.
The error is: An extended error occured.

I have done a search but cannot find anything that helps.

I am running XP Home Edition Version 2002 with service pack 2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tony

Are you sure you need v6? It is quite different from v4, and not
necessarily better.

I think you are missing the point. i am receiving an error and I am trying to
get some information about it and find out what I can do to resolve it.
Whether I need it or not is not the point.

Tony,

What details do you see in Event Viewer?

And please, when you reply to someone, reply to the post that person makes.
Quoting previous posts makes it easier to work on problems, and if you don't

I tried adding it again and had a look in the logs. There was no information
there about what had happened. The error is not generating an event
