What antivirus programs if any do you have? Some cause such problems,
although seldom immediately.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for replying. I have Norton antivirus. I had the same dialogue box
come up on my main user account. I deleted the account, added it again and
no problem. This doesn't work on this sub account. I have one other sub
account and that works fine. By the way here is the error message that
accompanies the dialogue.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Fw: Quotes', Account:
'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Norton is among the types for which most versions cause various
problems in Windows Mail. To stop it from causing problems, you
have to uninstall it, not just disable it. You may want to replace it
with avast!, preferably using a custom install that tells it to leave out
the part that scans email:

After you uninstall the Norton program, you may need to delete
the account under Windows Mail that has problems and recreate it
again to get rid of problems caused by Norton.

Here's btinternet.com's for connecting to their email servers. They were
written for Outlook Express under Windows 98, though, so they may be
out of date for use under Windows Mail.

I'm not sure you should do the part about connecting to your phone line
if you have a broadband connection, such as DSL.

Thank you Robert. I've got it working at the moment. I logged directly into
bt.yahoo.com and accessed my account. Somehow the password had become
corrupted and didn't match the one held in the Windows Mail account. If that
makes sense.
I've had problems with Windows mail and Vista several times, so I've saved
your suggestions in Word and when I get a chance I'm going to delete Norton
and try Avast.
