cannot get caller id

i cannot get caller id on the windows xp professional fax ....is there some
setting to enable it ?

This is a function of your modem. Read your modem manual to see if
that feature is present and what AT command turns it on. Once you
have confirmed the availability, add the command without the "AT" to
the modem initialization string.
Control Panel > Phones and Modem Options > Modem tab >Properties >
Advanced and the box at the top of the page. Click OK and restart
your computer. Test by calling the number to which the modem is
attached. If it does not work, buy a cheap Caller ID device and
place it inline with the modem.

If it does work, only the telephone number is displayed. If you use
HyperTerminal, the name and number are displayed, if available.

thanks a lot , i tried to what was given on that page...doesnt work....i
think the reason for that is that my modem is a forced installation on the
machine .....my xp had crashed once and when i tried to reload the modem
driver..it did not happen...that cud be the reason...
