cannot find server or DNS error

Jonathan, Whenever I try to login at Hotmail.com or
Password.com I get this error.I have done everything you
suggested to others. (set clock, uninstall firewall, clear
cache and cookies, check IE security settings,
run "regsvr32 softpub.dll") When I try to do anything on
the Members Services Passport page (change password,
change email, forgot my password, etc.), I get the same
error page. Net status says " all systems are stable and
running". I am running a fully updated version of XP home.
Any ideas? thanks,bill

Greetings Bill,

For a quick test, try and access the following website:
https://www.amazon.com

If amazon comes up, what's happening is either you've installed some sort of third-party
software firewall which is blocking the necessary websites (even if you've "uninstalled" it)
to log into Passport (or you've setup some sort of hosts file, or something similar) or your
Internet Service Provider is experiencing some difficulties.

If amazon doesn't come up, then most likely SSL (that is, the support which allows you to
connect to secure websites) has broken within Internet Explorer and we'll have to try
something else.

jonathan, I can go to amazon with no trouble. I'll look
around to see if I can figure anything. I removed
Zonealarm and checked with adaware and spybot but still
can't find anything that might be conflicting. I'd clean
out the whole thing and start again but HP didn't send a
windows xp disk and now are hassling me about if I really
own this copy of XP. Oh well, can you think of anything
else that might be conflicting? thanks, bill
