Hi all. This little box keeps popping up on my desk top every 10
seconds or so. It says "Internet Explorer cannot find http:///"
I have done virus scans, Spy-bot S&D, and Spyware Dr.
What the heck is this?
Thanks

After careful study of the symptoms you describe, I can assure you that
I do not know.

A typo? Shouldn't it be http://?

Not a typo. I have seen it probably 50 times today and that is how it
is displayed. Could this be a dos thing? The reason I say this is that
when the desktop loads a small dos looking window appears. About one
second worth.

Dell Inspiron 1405
Win MCE
Only had it 5 days

I am thinking that what ever this is it came in with a prog i
downloaded today.

All my security stuff is up and running.

Any ideas??

Thanks again.

Well, what's in startup?
Use msconfig to see what all is called for, identify each one.
Sounds like some badly coded or corrupted program is tring to call for a
web address.

Thank you thank you.
You kind of opened my eyes. I had looked in start-up but didnt see
anything that I thought shouldnt be there. After reading your reply I
took another look. Saw an item called hpprintspool.exe. I googled it
and found that others had the same problem as I. I removed it from
start-up and it seems to be gone.

Thanks again!!

No, I've seen the triple slash when doing some kind of mistype,
but only in IE7 iirc. I think it was when I not only mistyped
the address, but also left out the http (knowing that modern
browsers will put it in for you).

I dunno why something like that should happen without user
input of some sort though.
