when ever i restart my computer and press f10 it goes to the blue screen
where bios should and shows the languages but thats all it shows and i cannot
use up/down arrows to select any of them, also by hitting enter button it
does nothing. I have windows xp home edition with athlon xp 1900+ processor.
What could be causing this. I never had trouble before today 3/11/08

Although I suppose F10 could be used to enter the BIOS, my experience with it is
that it's mostly used to get to the device startup list where you can select which
device to boot from/to. What happens if you try ESC, F1 or F2?

Bill in Co.

Or try the Del delete key (to get into BIOS). Or possibly even F8.
So that makes about five to try. :)
Gotta catch right away, too. Don't wait too long! I usually keep
tapping it once a second to make SURE it gets picked up at the right
instant.

screen with the languages listed but thats it it won't let me select any of
them when i hit enter. I have tried several times restarting. It also won't
power down when i log off or or try to turn off computer it restarts after
about 5 min, i have to manually turn it off by the power button or task
manager.

Try holding down any key immediately at boot to see if you get a Stuck Key error
with the option to enter Setup (BIOS) or continue.
Try removing the CMOS battery for approximately 30 seconds and then put it back in,
that should reset your BIOS to Default settings.

CiFLfffc.001 and CiFLfffc.002 into file 25384 after this i restarted and
tried the f10 again and it went right into bios. How and what caused this i

<F10> is the standard BIOS entry key on HP/Compaq systems.

Maybe on Compaq's but not HP, at least the two I had, one used Del and the other
F1. Although the OP never mentioned make/model and I could be off track, AFAIK on
the newer models that use a hidden recovery partition, F10 is used for that partition
to Restore/Recover the OS/Software/Hardware.
