cannot download EXCEL document

I mainly use my pc for work purposes. I have windows xp and quattro pro gives
me access to excel documents, however, I was given an excel doc. to download
through my e-mail and am unable to get it to run. I am receiving the error
message : This operating system is not preseatly configured to run this
application, with no error code.. Is there a way I can fix this problem to
get this very much needed doc. to download??

your security programs are probably preventing it. virus's like the infamous
Lareau caused spreadsheets to replicate themselves by the thousands in the
background. the best way to send doc's from pc to pc is to zip them.......

Check with the originator to be certain it's a version of Excel
you can read. If it's from too new a version, you might not be
able to read it.

Also, instead of sending .xls, xlw etc. files, they should be
zipped for emailing. There ARE some ways to trash files during
transmission that zipping them will take care of.
