Cannot Delete JPGs

I have no idea what I have done. I have a number of JPGs and I decided to
create individual folders for easier viewing. I cut and pasted the pix but I
still had the individual pix as well as the same pix in folders. I tried to
delete the ones not in the folders. I could not hold the shift key down and
delete them all at once. It would only highlight one at a time. I could
hold down the control key and highlight multiples and by doing so I have
created hundreds of pictures. I can only delete them individually. Help! My
pictures are multiplying faster then rabbits. Why is my shift key not
highlighting multiples and deleting them????????

This can happen. Just a matter of how you move your mouse pointer.
You want to delete 10 files in a row.
Click on the first file. Remove your finger from the mouse button, move the
pointer to file 10. Hold the shift key down, click on file 10. All the files
in between are highlighted in blue. Remove your finger from the Shift key.
Press the Delete key. This sends the file to the Recycle bin. If you want to
prevent this. Hold the Shift key down, after the files the files are
selected and press the Delete key. This deletes the files without sending
them to the Recycle bin.
With the Ctrl key, click on the first file you want. Remove your finger from
the mouse button, move the pointer to the next file you want, hold the Ctrl
key down and click on the file. You keep doing this until you have selected
all the files you want. Then hold the Shift key down and press the Delete
key. The files are gone.
You are getting copies because when you hold the Ctrl key down and you click
on a file, you don't remove your finger from the mouse when moving you
pointer, so you are dragging the file and this makes copies of it.
It happens!

Thanks for the response but neither option works. I have used the shift key
to delete multiple files for years. I always hold the key down on the first
item I want to delete, then go to the last and all items are highlighted and
I then choose delete. No more. Holding the shift key, I can only delete one
at a time and I now have hundreds. I know I created the copies by using the
Control key. I've tried using the control key on each file separately and
hitting the delete key. I am still asked if I want to send it to the recycle
bin and it creates another picture. I'm exasperated!

I finally got them to delete. The shift key started working. I guess my
keyboard is going. Thanks!
