Cannot delete from 'Sent Box'

J

Jan Michael

I am trying to delete a 'Sent message' and a box with the message an "unknown
error has occurred" pops up and will not allow me to delete the message.

Could anyone give me a suggetion on why this is happening and how to get rid
of it?

It's usually a problem caused by your antivirus software.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember
where to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.

You'll probably have to delete that message after applying the
fix, but it should work then.

such

i finally found the answer to these"stuck' messages by calling HP directly.
I tried the patches first and the other suggestions, but none had worked.
So, this might work for you too. i keep the downloaded files on my computer
for any future problems, but since the fix in April, I have not had a problem
with Windows Mail. Here is the site that HP sent me to and you simply follow
the instructions to download and run what you need:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
Good luck! Hope this works for you as it did for me.

Thank you so much....this finally worked. All I had to do was download that
update. None of the other above "solutions" worked without buying software
first.

In Windows Mail, unknown errors and undeletable messages are often
due to interference from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus
programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even one of the trial versions thar
often come already installed on new computers?

For a temporary fix, download and run this program, with Windows
Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit versions first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.
