Cannot delete folder (again !)

A

Andy100

Hello,

I wrote to this newsgroup a couple of weeks ago but got no replies, so here
goes again (someone must know the answer ??!??!) : -

I have a folder within a folder. The folder had music files in it. I deleted
the music files (put them onto CDR) and so i was left with 1 folder inside
another (no files in either folder).

When i tried to delete the folder (which had another empty folder in it)
WinXP said "Cannot delete 'music' the directory is not empty". It IS empty
(or appears to be). Even if it wasn't empty, i should still be able to
delete it if i chose to do so. I switched on 'view all system files', still
nothing in that folder. I rebooted into safe mode. Still couldn't delete it
(same error).

How can i get rid of it. It had 0 bytes in size so there shouldn't be any
reason why i cannot delete it. It's just annoying !!

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

Start/run cmd

Navigate to the volume holding the parent folder using the usual CD\
commands

Run RD /s /q <parentfoldername> to remove the unwanted folder and all its
subdirectories and files.

Erm, you got replies. I know because I replied - as did Roger. Suggest you
actually look for your posts before you whine that no one's replied!

Not only are you a gormless cüNt that somehow feels women are the only
people who should get respect, but you're also a góddâmn liar. No where did
you post back to this person regarding this issue, as only roger did.

Thanks Ted, yep i think i did get one reply (but i didn't remember cos it

Tried that as well, didn't work. It only allows me to remove files, not
folders.

Cheers anyway

Try dragging the folder in the window instead of browsing for it. I've
used it to delete folders before.

Yep just tried that, no luck. It says it will delete on next boot. But the
file is still there after boot. As i say, it's not a problem, i just don't
want to admit defeat by it. It's just annoying and something out there must
be able to kill it !!

Andy, I'm having the same problems as you and it's frustrating!!! I can't believe for the life of my iPAQ that I will have these unwanted folders. If I find a number for Microsoft tech support, I'll let you know.

Andy: same problem - a string of empty folders that WOULD NOT delete; same error msg naming the lowest folder in the string. tried changing attributes - no help - the process went into lala land forever. followed rick rogers advice - tried DOS cmds ( erase & rmdir) - no help. on a whim, i created an empty file in the offending folder, then deleted the entire string! try it.

Just tried that, no luck !!!!. Thanks anyway michael. Funnily enough when i
create a 'new folder' in this undeletable folder, it names itself 'New
Folder (2)' as if there is already an invisible folder in there. I am
getting a bit peed off with this now. I shouldn't cos at least the PC is
still running OK, i think there are others in this newsgroup with greater PC
problems !!!!

Cheers anyway evry1 for help.
