Cannot copy from discs to Harddrive

I've seen other Vista users complain of slow file transfers from disc to
harddrives, but no one else has had the problem of a complete inability to
transfer. When I try to do so, through a multitude of means (copy-paste,
drag and drop, Tera) I always get the same thing.

I get "File Copying Utility No Longer Working," then a pause as the program
seems to "look for a solution." It never does find one. And it closes
whatever program I was using to make the transfer.

I am within five days of selling this computer for an XP rig.

What exactly do you mean by "file transfers from disc to harddrives"? Do you
mean that you can't transfer a file from a CD/DVD to the hard drive in your
computer, or is this over the network, or from an external hard drive, USB
thumbdrive, etc.?

Did whatever you are doing ever work? If yes, what changed? What are the
specs on your computer (make/model/processor/RAM)?
