Cannot Collect Information

Vladimir

If I try to open 'System Information' from System Tools
(Accessories) I got message:
'Cannot Collect Information.
Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation
software.
Windows Management files may be moved or missing.'

I wanted to use System Restore, but for some reasons I
don't have any restore poins.

"Vladimir;
Look here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Click the M. Scroll down to Msinfo32 - System Information (Error or
Missing) "Can't collect information Access denied to Windows Management
Instrumentation server on this computer. Have an administrator change your
access permissions."
If that doesn't help. Click the S at the top. Scroll down to System
Information (Msinfo32), damn near to the bottom.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

Vladimir;
You are welcome. My Msinfo32.exe is toasted. This works for me. Try
this:
Start>Run>Type (or copy and paste) msinfo32 /showcategories >OK.
Or: Windows key + R>Type (or copy and paste) msinfo32 /showcategories
Let us know.

Wes, thanks again!
But, nothing is changed - the same message...
As I understood the problem isn't in Msinfo32.exe, but in
information itself which (according to the Message) is
kept in Windows Management Files. The program cannot find
them, so these files are missing. How to restore them -
this is the problem!

Vladimir;
You're welcome again. Sorry I could not be of more help. My meager store
of knowledge is exhausted. I would suggest that you make a new post. List
your problem and what you have done so far trying to fix it.
Good luck!
Wes
Just reread your original Post. Is System Restore turned on?

Wes, thank you for your trying to help.
Finally I did it by reinstalling Win XP.
I didn't want to do this because I thought there is some
other ways to correct the problem but...
Anyway thanks again.
Best Wishes
Vladimir

Vladimir;
Yeah, I hear you about the re-install. You are most welcome. Maybe next
time I'll even have some correct answers. :blush:)
Keep smiling,
Wes
