Cannot bypass XP logon screen

Y

Yeah

Every time Windows XP Home (SP2) boots up, I see the Choose User screen. I
am the only one using the computer, and I wish to bypass this.

I've tried changing the necessary settings in Control Panel-User Accounts
(unchecking Use Welcome Screen), but that just prompts you to enter a
password using the classic screen.

I want the Welcome loading screen, and that's it. No user selection, no
password prompt. Can anyone offer me some pointers?

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
In the "Users of this computer" box, click on the User you want
to have logged on automatically.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

Good luck

Yeah

It's kind of funny...right after I posted that problem, I tried your
solution - in part. When I restarted, it showed a few "classic" windows for
a split second, and then hung at the "Windows is starting up" screen.

I went into Safe Mode and re-checked "Users must enter password", and got my
system back. This was after multiple attempts to even enter Safe Mode.

Thanks for the response! I will go ahead and execute your instructions word
for word. :)

Go to - control panel - user accounts

Delete any accounts other than your own which should be set as admin and one guest but make sure the guest account is turned of.

Your PC should just see one valid user then and go straight into windows.

This was a major frustration for me on a laptop I use for elevated photography. It won't fire up the chain of USB extensions till it goes into windows. Till the 'welcome screen' appeared one day I could leave it to it's own devices to boot up from scratch, took me ages to work out how to remove it.

All of the forum threads I read assumed you were trying to get round password protection so if like me you stumbled on this old thread I hope this helps.
