Cannot boot into Safe Mode

Hello,

I have a Windows XP SP2 box that is infected with a virus & has disabled my
AV.
When I try to reboot into safe mode to attempt to run an AV scan, the
computer gets caught in a rebooting loop. This is as far as I can get.

1. F8 boot menu
2. Choose Safe Mode
3. I see the line by line commands loading
4. Computer reboots

I can boot into normal mode but again the AV is disabled and won't start so
I need to try to boot into safe mode to run an AV scan.

Any suggestions besides reformatting?

Thanks....

It doesn't sound like you have a choice. Some people recommend erasing
your hard drive and starting over anytime your system is compromised.
Sounds drastic, but viruses/malware can embed themselves deeply in your
system and be virtually impossible to remove. You can try Doug's
suggestion, but if you can't even boot into safe mode I suspect you are
going to have to start from scratch. If you do, be sure to back up your
data.

boot to your xp cd and do a repair install, you will keep your data, but most
programs will have to be reinstalled, a format is not involved

I had the same reboot/reboot problem. My solution was to update the Nero
InCD program. If you have InCD on your computer, go to the Nero website and
update the program. It is a free update.
