Cannot Boot After Installing Critical Updates

Just after a new XP installation (non OEM) I updates all
critical updates and installed them. Just after
installation, the system showed the XP Splash screen, and
would not boot any further, even after repeated attempts.
It would boot into safe mode, but not regular mode.

Any suggestions please. Thank you.
