cannot access or read PST file

I have Outlook 2000. I was trying to import a PST file from an ex-employees
computer into mine. Everything was going great, it was copying and creating
folders and all that. Then it stopped and says "cannot read or access PST
file (the specified file for my email account". Now when I trying and
download my email, it goes through the whole process and then says "cannot
read or access (I can't remember which) PST file. I was guessing that maybe
there were too many emails in from the PST file that I was trying to upload
into my email, so I deleted the folders that it had created along with the
email. Well it still won't allow my email to download even after a couple of
restarts. Does anyone know why this is happening? I can still access
message that are already downloaded. Thanks.

Firstly, if you had looked at some of the many posts here you would have
found out that it is NOT recommended to use the import/export function to
transfer data from Outlook to Outlook.

One of the reasons for not importing is that it can corrupt the Outlook
profile. it looks as though that might be what has happened here.
Create a new Profile and do File-Open-Outlook Data file and navigate to
where you put the file you were trying to import. Then COPY the data into
your new pst file.

Gordon's advice is good, but since you're using Outlook 2000, you'll have to
note whether you're using it in Internet Mail Only mode or
Corporate/Workgroup mode. Help>About will tell you. It's easy to create a
new mail profile in CW mode, but requires manipulating the registry for IMO
mode.

Thanks for that reminder, Brian! And congrats on the MVP...

yes - if you create a new Outlook Profile it should create a new pst file to
go with it...
