Question is: Can I use an OEM version of windows xp pro on an old harddrive
which has been wiped clean? I realize that OEM version are for new computers
with, of course, new HD and I have old PC that has a wiped HD and so I didn't
no one way or another. Is a wiped HD the same has a new HD (?)
Thanks for you replys. GREG

OEM on that HD should be no problem.

As long as it has enough space to load XP Pro, and a few apps. at least
4GB, you can DO it with 3, but it's painful.

As far as Windows is concerned, it is.

What are the Specs on that OLD pc? At least as far as
processor/RAM/Hard drive go.

Well, the processor is a P3 500mhz / 128 MB SDRAM PC100 / HD 10 GB.
But, I intend on putting in at least 320 RAM and a 20 GB HD.
I'm tring to get at least the minimum system requirements to get windows XP
pro running and to connect to the internet. Basically, this PC will be used
for emailing and very little internet surfing and instant messaging.

Yes you can use an OEM version on this. It will only do a clean install.
Also make sure you have XP compatible drivers for all the hardware. Run the
upgrade advisor before doing the upgrade. Increasing the RAM is necessary
from the 128 MB. 512MB would be nice.

Those specs are fine.
