Can XP Computers Connect to Windows Network at Startup?

We have a small Windows network:

2 computers - Windows 2000 Pro - Ethernet connections.

2 computers - Windows XP Pro - wireless connections.

2 HP LaserJet printers - HP JetDirect connections.

The W2000 computers ask for the network login upon startup. The XP
computers do not connect to the network until we try to access a network
folder - we have to go through the tedious "My Network Places / Entire
Network / ..." drill to get a netork login window.

I thought perhaps connecting the XP computers using an ethernet connection
would help. Tried it, but no dice - same results. I also mapped network
drives, but still have to go through the "My Network Places / Entire Network
/ ..." business to get the network login.

Is there a way to have the XP computers connect to the network upon startup?

Sort of - use gpedit.msc and turn off fast logon:
