can we ping without ICMP? How?

Our crackerjack IS deparment turned off ICMP. in unix you
can ping without it. can you in Microsofts flavor of ping
or do we need shareware?

Ping is an ICMP utility, see http://www.freesoft.org/CIE/Topics/53.htm

I don't know what you are using in Unix, but "Ping" by design uses ICMP.
