Unfortunately, you haven't really supplied much information for anyone to go
on. We'd need more detail - exact symptoms, what your network configuration
is, what you've tried. For example, do you have a DHCP server on your
network? Is she getting an IP address? Can she ping anything? Etc.

Hello, you must release your current ip address. Then renew your ip address.
Do you know how to do this?

Tried to repair the connection with the windows task, but it tells me that"
windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action
could not be completed:
connecting to the wireless network......

You said you were trying this with a wired ethernet connection, too, in your
first post. Did you see my reply?

I went in thru the command prompt, and it says`...media state: media
disconnected. What does this mean, and how do I fix it?

also when i go to network tasks and try to repair the connection....it tells
me:
it is not possible to disable the connection at this time, this connection
may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug n Play, or it may
have been initiated by another user or the system account.......
CAN YOU HELP ME?

Ouch - no need to shout!

A quick google search yielded this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;318291
and also http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=102081

Check this connection's properties - what protocols is it using?

You could remove the NIC in device manager, and install the manufacturer's
current XP driver for the card.

You could also try http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html

Sorry, but you still haven't provided enough info about your network
configuration. What are you running/using? I asked whether you had a DHCP
server on your network - do you? If you have a little router/firewall
appliance, you have the option for it. If you're using ICS (Internet
Connection Sharing), it has a built-in DHCP server of sorts, as well.

I see from your other post that you are having more than just this problem -
I replied to it also, but am wondering if this machine has had a malware
infestation of some sort. I'd run antivirus scans on it and also perhaps the
Windows Defender beta, once you can get it on the network.... and post in
microsoft.public.security.homeusers if you find any nasties you can't clean
up.

Try another patch cable, try another network card, try another switch port.
You need to isolate the problem, and it doesn't sound like you're doing
that - or reading all the suggestions I've made so far.

Your not going to believe this...I used the program that you suggested from
the geeks, now i can connect to the router using a cable to the 10/100
line(which I couldn`t before).....and heres` the confusing thing, I used a
linksys wireless g adapter that i have from my laptop and that has no problem
accessing the internet on her laptop, but her card still won`t connect and
windows can`t disable or enable.... Have you ever come across this kind of
problem before?
Thanks for all your help, Chris

Download the latest wireless card driver & software for her card, from that
manufacturer's website.
Then try removing all her wireless card software in add/remove programs, &
remove the wifi card itself in device manager.
Then reinstall using the new stuff.

If that doesn't work, I suggest you compose a new, and different/concise,
post in microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless, and include as much
info as possible. This thread here is getting very stale, and I doubt many
people besides you & me are even looking at it.
