I have just started up windows Vista, and am unable to receive emails.
i have all the server information correct and when prompted I have no errors
when tested. I have tried pushing send/receive, and a screen flashes up like
its sending mail, but nothing happens.
would someone please help?

If you are running McAfee or Norton antivirus, that could well be the
source of your problem. Windows Mail is not compatible with
most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need to
be uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Suggest you install either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install
that tells it to leave out the part that scans enail.

You may also need to delete the email account under Windows Mail
and then create it again, to get rid of the last effects of your old
antivirus program.

I assume you have the instructions for setting up to use your email
provider's email servers. If not, ask them where to find the instructions.
If they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, use their
instructions for Outlook Express but under Windows Mail instead.
The instructions are probably somewhere on their web site. Or, you
could tell us who your email provider is and see if anyone here
already knows where to find the instructions. Your internet provider
is probably also your email provider.
