Can Ping Win XP Pro client

T

Todd

I have a new client on my network running Win XP Pro.
This client can communicate with the network just fine,
and this client can ping my computer and get a successful
response. However, when I try to ping this client, I get
no response (Request Time Out). I can ping any other IP
address on that subnet, just not this device.

Is there some setting in Win XP that will restrict the
machione from responding to a ping request?

Just a guess here. One machine can ping another but ping
in opposite direction fails - is there personal firewall
software on one machine? The XP builtin firewall is
disabled by default, I believe.

I don't recall turning this on, but it sounds like a
likely possibility. I will check this out.

This is exactly what happened. The Client had the
firewall turned on. As soon as we turned it off, I could
ping the client.

Thanks for the help!
